Rev. Nelson E. Booze was born April 20, 1933, to Harold H. Booze and LoVera Schonauer Booze in Richland County, Ohio. He grew up working with his parents and siblings in Booze’s Market, located between Mansfield and Ashland, Ohio.
The Booze family was active in First Assembly of God in Mansfield, Ohio, and at the age of 12, Nelson committed his life to Christ for ministry. He graduated from Southwestern Assemblies of God College in Waxahachie, Texas, with a B.S. in theology in 1955.
While at Southwestern, he courted Joyce Wells; they married May 25, 1956, in Tulsa, Okla., and began ministry immediately by assisting with a church plant. Nelson and Joyce later pastored in Waldron, Ark.; Cleveland, Miss.; Wilburton, Okla.; Springfield, Mo.; and Ridgedale, Mo. They also pioneered Chi Alpha groups at Delta State University, Cleveland, Miss., and Eastern State College, Wilburton, Okla.
Nelson is survived by his wife, Joyce Wells Booze; daughter Melinda; son Jonathan (Amy); and grandchildren Andrew and Elizabeth. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Kenneth; and one sister, Virginia Burton. He is survived by brothers Jack (Betty) and Lawrence (Lois); one sister, Alma Halstensgaard; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
A memorial service will be Saturday, March 11, 1:30 p.m., at Maranatha Chapel. Interment will immediately follow at Rivermonte Memorial Gardens, Springfield, Mo.
