Obituary for Stanley Helvey

Stanley Helvey
Stanley (Red) Duane Helvey 72, Strafford, MO,. passed away Monday, April 3, 2017, in Cox Medical Center South. Stanley was born in Springfield, Mo. on August 31, 1944, to Wilfred Robert (Son) and Maxine ( Burnett) Helvey. He was a member of the Strafford First Baptist Church.

Stanley was part of the Strafford graduating class of 1962. He married and to that union one daughter, Stacy, was born. In 1976, he married his present wife, Barbara, to which one daughter, Samantha was born. He has been a part of the Strafford community his whole life except for a brief time he lived in Springfield.

Stan has worked in the Medicare Supplement Insurance field since 1980 and was a self-employed insurance agent since 1988. He had not retired completely because he loved helping people with their insurance needs.

A close second to his love of his family was his love for motorcycles and traveling in his RV camper whether it be to Texas or just to to the river.


Stanley was preceded in death by his parents and one brother; Wilfred Robert (Bob) Helvey. Survivors include his wife, Barbara, two daughters: Stacy Harden and her husband, Jack, and Samantha Sturgis and her husband, Daniel Hunter all of Strafford, four grandchildren: Harley Harden and his wife Shannon, Kyle Harden, Parker Martin, and Sierra Martin,two great-grandchildren: Brody and Makayla Harden, a brother: Mike Helvey and his wife Lorraine, two sisters: Linda Purdy and her husband Floyd, and Michele Klopfenstein and her husband John,and his step-mother: Goldena Helvey
Stanley was a very generous man, he loved giving of his time and money to those in need. He, also. was honored to be an organ donor continuing to give even after death.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Private burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital (www.stjude.org).
