Clyde K. Doke, age 93, of Springfield, MO, passed away May 29, 2017. He was born April 30, 1924 in Springfield, MO the son of Clifford H Doke and Elsie (Richelman) Doke.
Clyde served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Motor Machinist Mate during World War II, and he was part of the landing at Normandy. Clyde had a smile that could not be forgotten. He enjoyed life in the early years at the lake with his family and friends. Clyde (Red Doke) drove for Campbell’s 66 Express for 38 years and ran the family farm in Polk County. In March 1951, he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen and they were married for 61 years. He enjoyed collecting coins and clocks, reading, traveling with Mary and teaching the grandchildren about cattle farming.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Ellen in 2012 and a grandson Christopher Daniel. Clyde is survived by his sons: Gary Doke and his wife Betty and Danny Doke and his wife Glenda all of Bolivar, five grandchildren: Angie, Brian, Brandon, Bradley, Austin and their spouses, nine great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Graveside services will be at 10:00 am at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
