Obituary for Donnie Lightfoot
Donnie Joe Lightfoot, age 75, of Polk, passed away in his home on October 20, 2017, surrounded by his family.
He was born, March 4, 1942, to Joseph Columbus (J.C.) Lightfoot and Stella Mae (Brown) Lightfoot. After graduating from Bolivar High School in 1960, he moved to Raytown, MO where he lived with his Aunt Mary and Uncle Wayne Hammerbacher. Donnie went to work at Hallmark Cards in Kansas City where he met Jeannette Grace Wagener. They were married in April of 1961. After their two oldest children Janet and Linda were born, they moved their family back to the farm in Polk, MO. Two more children were born, Joe in 1964 and Nancy in 1972. Donnie raised cattle and farmed his entire life. In recent years he enjoyed hunting as well as vacationing in Wyoming with his family.
On August 30, 1957 he was saved and joined Mt. View Missionary Baptist Church, in 1976 he joined Goodson Missionary Baptist Church, where he remained a member until his death.
In 1979 he was called to preach God’s word and was later ordained in 1982. He was Pastor at Pittsburg Missionary Baptist Church for 28 ½ years until ill health caused him to quit for a time. He later went back to preaching, pastoring at both Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church despite his declining health, until the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Gene. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jeannette, his children; Janet Stalker and husband Roy of Bolivar, Linda Polodna and husband Ron of Bolivar, Joe Lightfoot and wife Melissa of Polk and Nancy Gervais and husband John of Polk, his grandchildren; Brian Stalker and wife Sarah, Brandon Stalker, Cody Polodna and wife Kristy, Jace Polodna, Amanda Bryant and husband Matt, Kyle Lightfoot, Cade and Cole Gervais, Kaylee Hicks and husband Trevor, as well as his great-grandchildren; Natalie, Nathan and Olivia Stalker, Waylain Stalker, Avery and Warren Polodna, he is also survived by his brother Jerald Lightfoot and wife Berniece, and a sister-in-law Carolyn Lightfoot, his Uncle Marvin Brown, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousin and friends.
He will be profoundly missed by all.
