Lyman Jennings, 98, of Springfield, died peacefully at 8:45 Wednesday evening at Woodland Manor. Lyman was born June 30 1916 in Vista, Mo. and was raised in Cave Springs Mo by his parents John And Lula Jennings. A graduate of Willard High School, Lyman served his country joining the Air Force from ’42-’45 where he was awarded six bronze stars. Lyman served his Lord Jesus, joining National Heights Baptist Church (previously known as East Avenue Baptist) and teaching adult Sunday School for over 50 years earning heavenly awards. In 1947 at the age of 31 Lyman married Wanah Chastain. Lyman worked for Murray Coonrod Worley Insurance from 1950 until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of the Masons for over 50 years. He was a member of National Heights Baptist Church (previously know as East Avenue), where he served as deacon and taught adult Sunday School for nearly 50 years. Lyman was preceded in death by his parents, John Franklin Jennings and Lula Mae (Haynie) Jennings; his wife, Wanah (Chastain) Jennings; and his very good friend, Alma ( ) Bass He is survived by his sisters-in-law Ethel Mae Turner and Leima Cannefax and numerous nieces and nephews. Services for Lyman will be at 1:00 Monday at Greenlawn North with burial following. Visitation is scheduled an hour prior at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to National Heights Baptist Church or College of the Ozarks.
