Mauro R. Gonzalez, 76, went to be with our Lord on August 23, 2014. Mauro was born in St. Louis, MO on December 26, 1937. He grew up with his parents, Mauro C. and Margaret S. Gonzalez in Clayton, MO. He graduated from the Chaminade College Preparatory School in West St. Louis County and then the University of Central Missouri.
After serving in the Army, Mauro became a firefighter in Maplewood, MO. He served there for 32 years, retiring as Fire Chief in 2001
In 1972, Mauro married Katherine M. Young and they had two daughters: Kelly Anne and Becky Lynn. They lived in Cuba, MO for 24 years, enjoying life in the country with their horses and animals.
Upon retirement, Mauro and his wife Kathy moved to Springfield, MO and had fun for several years traveling, until his illness kept him in Missouri. Mauro and Kathy enjoyed travel, computers, music, MSU sports, Cardinal games and target shooting. They were members of First Baptist Church of Springfield, where they found Christian fellowship and a loving shepherd of the congregation in Rev. Michael Overton.
Our beloved Mauro is survived by his wife Kathy of 42 years; Kelly and her fiancé David McDaniel; Becky; In-laws Sam and Jean Young, Nancy Coonce and niece Jodi Roberts.
A Memorial service for Mauro will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East, 3540 Seminole, Springfield, MO. Interment will follow at Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery in Springfield with full military honors.
