Obituary

Zachary Alan Gafford, 19, of Republic, Mo passed away in the loving arms of his Mother and Father May 12, 2019. He fought a courageous battle against Ewings Sarcoma for four years and is now completely healed in the loving arms of the Father. He was a 2017 graduate of Republic High School where he was a member of the Republic Tiger Pride Marching Band all four years. Even though he was battling cancer, he was still able to graduate on time with honors.
Zach loved his family and friends. He was a foodie and liked trying new foods and going out with friends. He was interested in foreign cultures and enjoyed traveling. He was able, through Make-A-Wish, to travel to Rome, Italy and enjoyed the sights, sounds, and delicious food it had to offer. For such a young age, he was able to visit 37 of the 50 states, and he was planning on visiting all 50. His favorite place that he visited was the Avenue of Giants in California, he enjoyed feeling small standing among the giant redwoods.
Zach is survived by his parents Travis and Amy of Republic; his sister Briana of Columbia. He also leaves his paternal great grandmother, Betty Erickson; and paternal grandmother, Debra Gafford both of Polson, MT. He is also survived by many loving uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Zach requested to be cremated, visitation with the family will be held at Greenlawn East Funeral Home at 3540 Seminole, Springfield, MO 65809, on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at 2 pm with the service to follow at 3 pm. The family requests that if you plan on attending the service that the attire requested is Zachsquatch or superhero t-shirts. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, Ronald McDonald House of Memphis, or any organization the helps children with cancer. The family can provide information for organizations that have helped them throughout Zach's journey.

Zachary was such an outstanding young man. I remember when he was in 2nd grade and my granddaughter, Sharla Hawks tutored him in reading at Republic grade school. They had such a special bond and stayed connected through the years with Zachs Mom, Amy being one of Sharla's very best friends! Rest in piece, Zachary, no more pain and we will meet again.
