Albert Junior Shelton
Albert Junior Shelton, 89, of Mount Vernon, Missouri, died Sunday June 28, 2009 at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Mount Vernon. He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, August 10, 1919 to Albert Ross and Edith Gertrude (Gladson) Shelton. He married Ila Mae Yount August 16, 1942. Al served his country with honor as a squad leader, in the army, during World War II from 1942 through 1945, in Company A of the 385th infantry, the 90th division. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded four Bronze Stars for campaigns in Normandy, Northern France and Germany, as well as the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, and the BronzeService Arrowhead. He retired from Unisys in 1981 at which time he and Ila Mae moved to Mount Vernon, Missouri. He was a member of the Mount Vernon Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ila Mae; his parents; four brothers, Roy Shelton, Ralph Shelton, Jack Shelton, and Stanley Shelton; two sisters, Gladys Scott and Norma Yount; and one grandson, Jeff Collier. Survivors include two sisters, Doris Burch and Colleen Taylor; three children, Donna and Jerry Collier, Cheryl Robinson, and Chris and Sheila Shelton; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be held in Greenlawn Funeral Home North from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 1. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 2 in the Mount Vernon Church of Christ. Burial will be at Summit Cemetery located east of Mount Vernon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Mount Vernon or Fairhaven Children’s Home in Strafford, Missouri.
