Arthur J. Swain, Jr. of Mt. Vernon, Mo., passed away on July 11, 2016. He was born on August 14, 1928 to Arthur J. Swain, Sr., and Etta Hazel Minor, on Davis Island, Tampa, Fla. He relocated to Springfield, Mo., at the age of 13. He met and married Catheryn LaVerna Gallion in 1948. At the age of 20, he began working for the City Utilities of Springfield, and retired from there after 42 years of service. During this time, he purchased the family ranch in Mt. Vernon, Mo. He raised a large number of cattle, had a love of riding horses, and spent many hours working the fields. All of this while still working full time for City Utilities. After retirement, he and LaVerna enjoyed traveling the US in their motor home, and spending time in their boat on the lake. He is survived by his children, Sheryl McCarty, Julia Snyder, Roy Swain, Rebekah Swain, Grady Swain, and Jackie Swain, along with numerous grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 18, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 3506 N. National Ave., Springfield, Mo. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Life Bridge Assembly of God, Mt. Vernon, Mo.
