B-Etta Funk
B-Etta Funk was born August 17, 1922, in Perry, Oklahoma. She graduated to heaven September 25, 2009. She was married to Leslie G. Funk on July 5, 1955, in Mead, Nebraska, on his return from the military in World War II. Les was captured by the Japanese in the Philippines and endured the Bataan Death March and spent 39 months in a Japanese prison camp. Les preceded B-Etta to heaven on November 30, 1987. Starting in 1951, B-Etta served as an independent missionary in the Philippines before she and Les were married. They were approved as Baptist Bible Fellowship missionaries in 1955, and were instrumental in starting a number of churches in the Philippines and in Australia, where they also served. She was preceded in death by Les; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mayer; and four brothers. She is survived by three sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2009, in Greenlawn Funeral Home North, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. Tuesday, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Baptist Bible Fellowship Philippines fund.
