Barbara Irene Smith passed to the arms of her Lord on January 15, 2010, in the Citizens Memorial Healthcare Facility Bolivar, MO, where she had been a resident since July 2009. She was born March 1, 1931, in Amarillo, TX, to Gonnie and Clara (Martin) Warren. She is a US Navy Korean War Veteran Honorably discharged in December 1952. She was united in marriage to Lyle R. Smith September 8, 1951, and to this union three children were born.
Her parents; husband of 52 years Lyle R. Smith; a sister Helen Stallings; and a grandson Jason Smith precede her in death.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Connie Shafer and husband Michael of Abilene, TX, Sandie Jones and husband Bill of Bolivar, MO, and Lyle Smith II and wife Pam of Springfield, MO; one sister Priscilla Ann Graves and husband Don of Joplin, MO; seven grandchildren: Cassaundra Jah, Chyann Smith, Zach Jones, Josh Jones, Brandon Tenay, Tiffany Tenay, Laura Shafer; six great grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends.
According to Barbara’s wishes her body will be cremated and inurned in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery Springfield next to her husband at a later date. A memorial service will be held Monday, January 18, 2010, in the New Life Community Church Bolivar, MO, with Rev. Bill Jones officiating.
