Barry L. Hannah passed away on June 23, 2022 after a startlingly brief battle with cancer in Springfield, Missouri. Barry was married to Cindy, the love of his life, for 45 years. He was a loving and devoted father to their two children, Bryan and Rebecca.
Barry was born in Iberia, Missouri on March 21, 1949. He graduated as valedictorian from Iberia High School in 1967 and began at the University of Missouri Rolla in September of that year. After joining the Air Force in August of 1969, he was stationed in San Antonio, Texas; Denver, Colorado; Tainan and CCK, Taiwan; Guam; and Minot, North Dakota before an honorable discharge in August of 1973.
Barry was a dedicated and effective teacher. After earning his master’s degree in education from Central Missouri State University, he taught there for several years before joining Springfield Public Schools to develop the industrial technology curriculum. He then taught industrial technology at Glendale High School for 20 years before retiring in 2016.
Barry had a strong faith in God that he shared with his family, and he was involved with the church as a preacher, teacher and deacon. He enjoyed woodworking and designing improvements for sub-par machinery. He could most often be found ‘tinkering’ in his shop bringing his latest and greatest idea to life.
Barry is survived by his wife Cindy, son Bryan, daughter and husband Rebecca and Aaron Whiting, sister Judith Myers (husband Jim decd.), brother and wife Lyman and Claudeen, brother and wife Kent and Melody, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Leslie, mother Fannie and brothers David & Doyle.
Donations can be made, in lieu of flowers, to Fair Haven Children’s Home or Springfield Workshop Foundation.
