Betty Lou Doran passed away on September 16, 2023. She gained her heavenly wings while surrounded by her family singing her favorite hymns. Betty was born to Moses and Mildred Miller on August 8, 1930, in Springfield, Missouri, where she lived her entire life. She came to faith in Christ at an early age and joined East Avenue Baptist Church (renamed National Heights) when she was sixteen and served there as a loyal member throughout her life. Betty graduated from Central High School in 1948. Shortly after graduation she met Albert Doran whom she married on October 9, 1949. They were married for 61 years until his passing in 2010. The sweet joys of their lives were their daughters, Judy and Jana, their grandchildren, Holly, Brian, and Brad, and their six great grandchildren. Betty loved being surrounded by family and friends and the feeling was mutual.
After Albert’s death in 2010, Betty continued to be active with her church family and many friends, playing canasta and cards, never missing a St. Louis Cardinals’ game on TV, boating, and traveling to visit family. She was always “on the go.”
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Dorothy Sorensen; her brother, Larry Miller; and her husband, Albert Doran. Betty is survived by her daughters Judy Cochran (Tom) and Jana Woodall (Brent); grandchildren, Holly Kinahan (Jim), Brian Cochran (Nicole), and Brad Woodall (Tracey); great grandchildren, Taylor and Connor Kinahan, Chace, Mason, and Bennett Cochran, and Sam Wang; a sister-in-law, Alice Doran Baldwin; five nieces, one nephew, and their extended families. She leaves behind a host of dearly loved friends.
Betty Doran was a lover of life and faithful in all her ways. She will be missed, but never forgotten by all who knew her.
Services, under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home East, will be at National Heights Baptist Church on September 23, 2023, with visitation at 10 a.m., and Celebration of Life at 11 a.m. Graveside services will immediately follow at Maple Park Cemetery.
