Betty J. (Wiseman) Highfill, age 92, of Springfield passed away on February 16, 2016. She was born August 22, 1923 in Greene County, the youngest daughter of Robert and Ina (Owen) Wiseman. She attended Fair Grove Schools. She received a B.S. Ed. at SMSU and her M. Ed. from Drury College. She taught 25 years in the Springfield School System, all at Ed V. Williams Elementary School in grades 3 – 5. She was a member of National Heights Baptist Church, a life member of Springfield Area Retired Teachers Association (SARTA). She was a life member of Cox Hospital Auxiliary and a volunteer at Cox Health North. She belonged to Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Gail, her mother and father, her sisters Blanche Wiseman and Maxine Johnson, Dorothy Wommack, her brothers Owen and Grady Wiseman. She is survived by three sons, Gary and wife Martha, Killeen, TX, Daniel, Mark and wife Sharon of Springfield, one grandson and four granddaughters, eight great grandchildren, one sister Vesta McKinnis of Springfield, one brother James Wiseman and wife Sarah of McPherson, KS, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Monday at 1pm with visitation Sunday from 2pm to 4pm at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, with Dr. Vaughn Weatherford officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Bluff Cemetery, Fair Grove. Contributions can be made to SARTA Scholarships Fund or National Heights Baptist Church.
