Bobby Keith Solomon, born August 28, 1923, passed Thanksgiving day, November 26, following a massive stroke. Bob was the son of Wiley and Nora Solomon of Springfield. He was the last to survive of his siblings, Juanita, Reba, Vincent, Eula Mae, Bonnie and George. Bob was lovingly known as Uncle Bob to his many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed for his sense of adventure and love of life. Bob graduated from Central High School, attended flight school while serving in the Navy, and pursued his passion for golf. In the 1940s and 1950s, Bob was a caddy at Hickory Hills Country Club. Later upon the high recommendation of his schoolmate and close friend, golfer Horton Smith, he became a successful golf pro at Detroit Golf Club. After following his passion for golf a good while and living life to the fullest, he settled into a career as a homebuilder. He, like many of his siblings and father, was a union carpenter and member of Local # 978. In the 1960s he became a partner in Solomon Construction Company with his brother George. Together, they became real estate developers and completed several Springfield subdivisions. In his retirement years, Bob became an antiques dealer and he particularly took pleasure in being a dealer at First Monday Trade Days in Canton, Texas. There, he developed friendships and in the evenings gathered around campfires with other dealers from around the country for dinner, singing and fellowship. The other dealers did not see him as competition, but found him to be a great friend. Most importantly, Bob found great fellowship in the members and Rev. Bill McFarland of Springfield’s Water Mill Church of Christ. He was a member there for decades. Greenlawn Funeral Home North, at 3506 N. National in Springfield, will host visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 29, and funeral services on Monday the 30th, at 10 am. Bob favored Fairhaven Children’s Home with his time and support. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bob’s name to it at: 3132 N. Fairhaven Loop, Strafford, Missouri 65757.
