Carolyn Sue Shank, age 87, formerly of Springfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully at Delmar Gardens North in O’Fallon, Missouri, on March 29, 2023. Carolyn was born to Clarence and Nora Belle (Poyner) Davis on November 14, 1935, in Springfield, Missouri. She was raised in Springfield by her mother Nora and stepfather Curtis Miller. Carolyn was united in marriage to John Richard Shank on August 1, 1952, in the home of Carolyn’s mother. Carolyn and John were married for 53 wonderful years before John’s untimely passing in 2005. She retired from Springfield Public Schools as kitchen worker at Hillcrest High School. She was a longtime member of Boulevard Baptist Church where she enjoyed worshiping and attending to the needs of her church. Carolyn and John were blessed with three loving children, John, Michael, and Brenda.
At the age of 10, Carolyn made her profession of faith and accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. Carolyn was deeply committed to her faith and, from the time of her salvation, lived her life as a Bible-believing Christian. She and her husband raised their children in a spirit-filled home where Jesus and church were the highest of all priorities. Carolyn enjoyed working at vacation Bible school, working with mission friends, helping with Girls in Action, and Acteens. While Carolyn was an avid Cardinals and Chiefs fan, nothing brought her more joy than watching her grandchildren play sports and participate in their many school-related activities. She was always their biggest fan and cheerleader.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Davis; mother and stepfather, Nora and Curtis Miller; husband, John Shank; son and daughter-in-law, John and Carol Shank; son-in-law, Benjamin Dasal; brother, John Wesley Miller; and sister, Sharon Miller. She is survived by her son, Michael Shank; daughter, Brenda Dasal; five grandchildren, Brian Shank and his wife Jessica, Jennifer Stone and her husband Branden, Tyler Dasal and wife Whitney, Jamie Shank, Kristin Collier and husband Daniel; 11 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Carolyn will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A visitation for Carolyn Sue Shank will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home North (3506 N National) on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, from 9:00-11:00 am. Her funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 11:00 am. Following the funeral service, Carolyn will be laid to rest next to her husband in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
