Cecil Chittenden was born near Halfway, Mo., to Horace and Fay Chittenden on December 5, 1932. He departed this life on January 7, 2010 at the age of 77 years. Cecil graduated from Halfway High School in 1950. He moved to Springfield, Missouri and was employed first by Henchell Cabinet Maker and Millwork and retired from Creative Woodworking at age 62. During this time, he worked part-time at Ozark Empire Fairgrounds which was also a hobby to him. He very much enjoyed being around people and helping them. Cecil met and married Ruth Locke in 1958. He and Ruth became the parents of two daughters, Marilyn and Virginia. Cecil was saved at an early age and remained a member of Schofield Baptist Church at the time of his death. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth; and daughter, Marilyn. He is survived by one daughter, Virginia Omans and husband, Dan of Springfield, Mo.; four grandsons, Billy Sanders, Jr., Steven and Bobby Oglesby and Tommy Smith, all of Springfield; one sister, Fern Collins and husband, Charles of Springfield; one brother, Dean and wife, Donna of San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by one nephew, three nieces, one cousin, and their families, plus numerous friends. Memorial contributions may be made in Cecil’s honor to Regional Hospices. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 1 p.m. in Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
