On February 19, 2016, Charles Dee Smith passed away peacefully at Mercy hospital surrounded by his family. Charles and his twin brother, Bob, were born at home in Koshkonong, MO to Clyde and Hattie (Gregory) Smith. On October 18, 1951, he married Ruthie Hurd. They were together close to 64 years before Ruth’s death in May 2015.
Charles is survived by his daughter Stella Wagner and husband Mark; his son Greg Smith and wife Cindy; and son Bobby and wife Candy. Charles loved spoiling his grandchildren. He always made sure they had plenty to eat and drink–whether they wanted it or not. He is survived by granddaughter Lori Henderson, grandson Zach Smith and wife Leslie, granddaughter Amber Chapman and husband Greg, granddaughter Caitlyn Wallberg and husband Adam and granddaughter Meagan Smith. Charlie is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, Audrey Henderson, Jonah Henderson, Lucas Henderson, Lalieh Quigley, C.J. Quigley, Olivia Chapman, Zane Chapman, Adley Chapman, MaczKenna Wallberg and Emma Wallberg. He is also survived by his only great-great-granddaughter Sage. In addition, he is survived by his sister Betty Jones and husband Charles, his brother Jim Smith and wife Marian, sister-in-law June Smith, brother-in-law Jack Hurd and wife Pat, sister-in-law Barbara Hurd and host of nieceds, nephews and friends.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Clyde, his twin brother Robert Lee (Bob), his sister Claudia and his grandson George Henderson.
Charles was a painter by trade with over 50 years in the union. He took great pride in his work. When you were driving with Charlie, he would point out every building, bridge and water tower he had painted. He then would tell you stories about painters he worked with and just laugh. Charles had a wonderful laugh. He was a giving man and he helped many people during his lifetime.
Visitation is Wednesday, February 24, 2016 6:00-8:00 pm at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Graveside services will be Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 2:00 pm in Rose Hill Cemetery, Willard, MO.

Although our hearts are sad and there are tears in our eyes, we will miss you Charles D. Smith. But, we will rejoice with our many wonderful memories and in knowing you are in the most wonderful place–pain free and surraounded by loved ones and your Ruthie.
