Charles “Chuck” Richard Achterberg, born on June 16, 1939 in Portage, Wisconsin, to the late Marie Achterberg and the late Louis Achterberg, passed away at age 79 on February 28, 2019 in Branson, Missouri. Chuck graduated from Portage High School in 1957. From 1957 to 1976, Chuck proudly served in the Navy, including assignments on the USS HYMAN (DD-732) and USS INDEPENDENCE (CV-62) during the Vietnam War. Following retirement from naval service, Chuck moved on to become a serial entrepreneur, starting K.G. Johnson Livestock Equipment in Baraboo, Wisconsin in 1977, then in Branson, Missouri, Entertainment Concepts Inc in 1992 and Signs Now in 2002. Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Joyce Achterberg. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Eugene and James Achterberg; and dog and best friend, Benji. Chuck is survived by his sons (wife), Karl (Shannon), Kevin (Michele), and Kurt (Jenny); sister, Betty Christianson; and grandchildren Austin (Duvall), Nathan, Sam (Duvall), Austen, Bella (Farber), Max (Duvall), Sophie, Olivia (Farber), Gracie (Duvall), Colin, Keira (Fry), Molly, Lily and Aiden (Fry). He also leaves behind his greatly loved cat, Toby. Chuck's hobbies included golf, Fox News, cooking on his Big Green Egg, boating, fishing and travel. He was an active member of the Rotary Club of Branson-Hollister. Those who wish may donate in Chuck's name to the American Cancer Society. Friends and family members may attend the visitation at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 708 State Highway 248, Branson, Missouri on Thursday, March 7th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Pastor Rex Childress will officiate the funeral service on Friday, March 8 at 11:00am at Greenlawn Funeral Home in Branson. The interment with full military honors will follow at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S Southwood Rd, Springfield, MO 65804.
