Christopher “Chris” Dickinson went home to be with Jesus on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 20, 2021 after a 7 year battle with cancer. He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Sandra; his two sons, Michael and Timothy; his daughter-in-law, Makenna; his grandchildren, Christopher and Holiday; his brother, Walter; his sister-in-law, Dona; and his cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends.
Chris was born at home on January 3, 1947 to Christopher and Marie Dickinson in Cranford, NJ. After graduating high school, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. For the next 33 years, Chris worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring at the age of 56.
Chris’ faith in God led him to love unconditionally and have an irreplaceable impact on the lives of everyone he met. He enjoyed tinkering with gadgets and electronics, listening to music, watching backyard birds, and most of all, giving heartfelt hugs.
A visitation is scheduled at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 441 W Battlefield Rd, Springfield, MO 65807 for 6-8 PM on Thursday, July 1 with a brief memorial service beginning at 7 PM.
A military funeral honor ceremony will follow at 1 PM on Friday, July 2 with the procession starting at Greenlawn Funeral Home and arriving at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S Southwood Rd, Springfield, MO 65804.
Before passing, Chris wished to show his gratitude to the four teams of doctors and nurses who tirelessly cared for him during his time fighting cancer. He wanted to send each team a tray of specialty pastries as a small token of his appreciation. In lieu of flowers, Chris’ family would love for you to be a part of blessing these doctors and nurses. If you feel led to give, any amount would be greatly appreciated.
