Clare Jean Scherner, 92, of Springfield, MO. passed away February 28, 2015 at Riverside Manor in Ozark, Mo.
Visitation will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home North on March 5, 2015 from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm with the funeral service starting at 12:30 pm. Burial will follow at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Springfield.
Jean was born October 23, 1922 in Springfield, Mo. to Ransom C. and Edna M. (Spires) Low. She went to high school at Springfield Senior High and graduated in 1940. On May 12, 1946 she married Harry C. Scherner of Holstein, Iowa. Jean enjoyed working for several years as a secretary outside of the home until she and Harry started their family. She then became a very devoted and loving mother who enjoyed, more than anything, her life as a homemaker and raising her children.
Jean was loving and caring and always had a smile for everyone. She was very active in her church, Mt. Carmel Methodist, and spent many years singing in the choir. In her later years she volunteered at Cox Hospital and loved playing bridge with her dearest friends.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Ransom and Edna, and two brothers Billy and Danny Low. Jean is survived by her husband Harry C. Scherner of Springfield, a son, Max Scherner of Springfield, daughters Melinda (Scherner) Wilson and husband Ken of Willard and Juli (Scherner) Russell of Highlandville, sister Betty (Low) Wilke and husband Doyle of Madison, Wi., four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mt. Carmel Methodist Church Springfield, Mo. or the Alzheimer’s Association.
