Clarence Cecil Young, 93, of Springfield, MO passed away in his sleep Tuesday, June 16, 2020. He was born in Walnut Grove, MO on October 26, 1926 to Cecil and Zella Young. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was united in marriage to Anna Jean Bates on January 19, 1952.

Clarence came home to Walnut Grove after his military service where he worked as an independent dairy transportation specialist. From there he continued his transportation work as a Greyhound bus driver, where he retired after 30 years of service.

He was an avid gardener and was always proud of the fruit and vegetables he raised. He grew just about everything in his one-third acre garden. He also helped with the upkeep of all the flowers that his wife kept in the yard.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Zella Young; his step-mother, Mae Young; a daughter, Barbara Gleason; three brothers, Orvil Young, Hubert Young, and Clyde Young; a step-brother, Leo Carver; and a step-sister, Leelia Cummings.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Jean; a daughter, Christine Bates and husband Tom; a son-in-law, Roger Gleason; four grandchildren, Shannon Dix and husband Matt, Andrea Clifford and husband Vince, Laura Baker and husband Matthew, and Aaron Bates and wife Melissa; two great grandchildren, Ella Dix and Grayson Baker; and a step-brother, Fred Carver.

He will be greatly missed by several nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, June 19, 2020 from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm at Northside Christian Church. Services will be at 2:30 pm at the church with burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
