Clarence R. Hill, age 91 of Fair Grove, MO, peacefully passed away on Monday, November 7th with his loving family by his side. Clarence was born to James Will Hill and Pearl Francis(Ashpaugh) Hill on May 3, 1931 in Orrick, MO. He was one of 14 children. He was united in marriage to Norma Jean Shoup on February 5, 1955 in Hiawatha, Kansas. To this union five daughters were born; Cindy, Suzie, Patty, Lisa, and Franny. Clarence and Norma shared 46 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in 2001. Clarence proudly served his country in the US Army and retired after 23 years of service. He was always so proud of his military service and truly loved serving his country. He stood strong for the flag and loved to share his army stories with his family and friends. His family will always cherish these memories. After retiring from service, he drove a school bus for Pleasant Hope Schools and built miles and miles of fence. He then went to work for RT French Co. and retired after many years.
Clarence was known for his great passion for riding and training horses. He was the 4-H Leader for the Fair Grove Go Getters and Hoof Prints club and spent many hours taking his grandchildren to horse shows. He was an avid mushroom hunter and couldn’t wait for Spring hunting season. He started off a good hunt with his favorite saying “seek and ye shall find”. He loved spending time with his family and will be deeply missed.
He was saved as a boy and was a member of Bass Chapel Baptist Church, Strafford Missouri. He was an active member there until his health kept him from attending.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, James Will and Pearl Francis Hill; In-Laws, Norman Eugene and Mable Ellen Shoup; loving wife, Norma Jean; grandson JR Church; son-in-law Lee Pendergrass; 4 brothers, 6 sisters, and a close friend and companion, Mary Allen. He is survived by daughters, Cindy (Jim) Swofford, of Green Forest, Arkansas; Suzie Pendergrass of Fair Grove, Missouri; Patty (husband Dennis) Dukes of Fair Grove, Missouri; Lisa (husband Randy) Church of Buffalo, Missouri; Fran (husband Jeff) Long of Elkland, Missouri; 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 15 great great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Eugene (wife Marie) Hill, Billy Joe Hill, and Eddie Hill, and a host of family and friends.
Services will be held Friday, November 11, 2022 at Bass Chapel Church, Strafford, MO. Visitation will begin at 10 o’clock with the funeral services to being at 11 o’clock with Bro. Russell Roderick and Bro. Zane Durnell officiating the service. A full military service will be held at the graveside following the funeral.
