Clarence Richard Romine, 97, left this world to be with the Lord at 3:20 p.m. on April 9, 2021. He was one of six sons of Robert Elihu and Bessie Francis Romine and was born on November 3, 1923, in St. Louis, Missouri. Clarence grew up on a farm near St. James, Missouri, attained an eighth-grade education, and left home at 14 years old to help support his family. In World War II, he joined the U.S. Army and served in Europe until the war’s end. Clarence married Lenora Jane McKee, daughter of James E. and Henryetta McKee, on November 23, 1951. Together they had three children and six grandchildren.
Clarence is survived by his children, James Clarence Romine and his wife Sheila, Virginia Gail Taylor and her husband Craig, and Neal Richard Romine and his wife Peggy. He is also survived by his grandchildren Nathan Taylor, Rachelle Schmachtenberger, Arielle Ansay, Nyssa King, Andrew Romine, and Lindsey Romine and his brother Louis Leroy Romine. Clarence is preceded in death by his wife Lenora and brothers Elton, Vernon, Arthur, and Donald.
Clarence was a long-time resident of Greene County, Missouri, and a member of the Pleasant Home Baptist Church. He worked as journeyman electrician and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for more than 50 years. His greatest pleasures in life were his family, gardening, and outdoor activities like hiking and canoeing. He was always known as a man of principles, willing to serve his family and others at every opportunity. Clarence will be missed in this world but has blessed assurance of an eternity of reward through his faith in Jesus Christ.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, and the funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, both at Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Grand Oak Missions in Springfield, Missouri.
