Daphne was our Children's Librarian at the Kearney Branch Library. Those were days when the staff became a family. The library was being renovated and the entire staff helped out in choosing furniture and other decision-making. Daphne spent most of her time making a large painting for the Children's Dept. while staying with her dying husband in Texas. I last time I saw Daphne was at a protest in downtown Springfield--I believe it was for gun safety laws. I am sad she has left us, but she did live an exciting life.

My condolences. Daphne has always been a bright light in my world. Her grace, gentle kindness and sense of adventure, were just a few of her wonderful gifts. I’m grateful for the time we shared. All of my memories of Daphne are dear to me of course, but what is flooding to mind the most right now is when we lived together. She and Louie were generous enough to let me stay there when I’d begun a new job in the early 90’s and she and I lived together again in 95. She was a gracious and loving woman and smart as a whip!! Gosh what a wonderful woman! May the memories of her, that we all have, bring us some comfort and allow us to smile through our grief as we release her to creator.

Daphne was such a lovely person and she always made me feel welcome into the Library family. She was an excellent children's librarian and her storytimes were made richer by her artistic nature and experience. My husband interviewed Daphne's father for the Veteran's History Project and every single time she saw me or my husband afterwards she expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to learn new things about her dad. She was kind, funny, and passionate. I missed her when she retired from the library and always enjoyed it when we happened upon each other somewhere out in the world. Sending my best thoughts to Daphne's family.
