Dixie Lee (Sunley) Freeman was called home to Jesus in the early morning of 1 Feb 2016. She passed with her husband, Alfred, of 62 years at her side. Dixie was born in Albert, Kansas on Nov 14, 1934 to Roy and Fern Sunley.
Dixie raised six children, one of whom, Joyce, died at an early age. Alfred served in the Army and the family moved often. Dixie ran the household creatively and always made sure her kids were well taken care of. All on a Sergeant’s pay. Later in life, Dixie had her own career as a admin assistant for the U.S. Government.
She was strict when needed and loving to a fault. Her children are successful with families of their own, thanks in no small part to Dixie’s guiding hand. She is an active member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. She loved going to shows in Branson and knew many of the performers. Dixie was creative and enjoyed quilting and sewing clothes for her girls she even made her own wedding gown. Her neighbors Debbie, Dennis and their children were family to her. Dixie will be missed terribly by all who knew her. Heaven is only made better by her presence.
Dixie is survived by her loving husband Alfred and her five children, Bernard, Debbie, Cynthia, Steven and Arlene, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Surviving brothers, Ron, Darrell, Leon and Richard all residents of Kansas. Go with God, lovely lady.
Visitation and prayers will be at the Greenlawn Funeral Home on Sunday, 7 Feb from 5-7pm. A celebration of Dixie’s life will be at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church on 8 February at 11 am, her final resting place will be at the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery off Evans Road in Springfield, MO at 2 pm. The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the Make a Wish Foundation or the Hulston Cancer Center in Springfield, MO. Arrangements are under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home in Branson.
