She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale E. Harmon, five brothers, two sisters, and their spouses: Russell (Betty) Justis, Gale (Nellie, Kay) Justis, Keith (Jean) Justis, Gordon (Laura) Justis, Jim Justis; Lois (Lloyd) Nichols, and Janice (Virgil) Hutchinson. After graduating from high school in Bridgeport, she met and later married traveling evangelist Dale E. Harmon on June 12, 1948. She enjoyed being in ministry as a pastor’s wife in Missouri, Iowa, Washington, and Nebraska. Dale and Dolores owned a Christian bookstore in Hastings, Nebraska, and then Roderique’s Christian Bookstore in Springfield, Missouri.
Dolores’ hobbies included knitting, crocheting, gardening, and watching sports! Her favorite teams were the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs, and Nebraska Huskers. Her favorite color was red! She was always checking to see when the next game was going to be on TV. It was common for her son Mark to receive a phone call from her, asking, “Are you watching the ballgame?” She also had a sweet tooth and enjoyed baking pies and cookies along with having multiple candy jars filled with mini candy bars and snacks. One of her greatest joys was being a grandma.
Dolores is survived by her son Mark (Jodi) Harmon, daughter-in-law Frances Harmon, four grandchildren: Johnathon Harmon, Emily (James) McCullough, Cathi Christopher, Teri (Clif) Sickmyre, two great-grandchildren Katie Christopher, Austin (Christina) Sickmyre, great-great-granddaughter Kali Sickmyre, a brother-in-law Gordon (Marie) Harmon, and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Even with many physical ailments over the last several weeks, she kept her sweet spirit. The hospital workers, physical therapist, and caregivers commented on how sweet she was. Dolores longed to see Jesus, and she shared the love of Jesus and her desire to go to heaven with everyone who came into her room. She has made it home and into the arms of her loving Savior.
