Donna Marie Harris Young was called home with our Lord and Savior on September 6, 2020. She was with people she loved dearly and enjoying the gorgeous sunset on Table Rock Lake that she cherished so much.
Donna was born and raised in Shenandoah, Iowa to George Wilbur “Zeb” Harris and Billie Marie Shelton Harris. Her parents, as well as her younger brother Larry Harris, preceded her in death. She is survived by her children Kelly Heard and husband Scott and Robert Young as well as her siblings Jerry Harris and wife Sally, Linda White and husband Richard and Sandy Harris. She was an incredible and loving grandmother to Jeffery Murphy and wife Lacy, Joy Gebauer and husband Craig, Connor Heard and fiancée Cheyenne Riggleman, Chloé Heard and Kate Heard.
Donna moved to Omaha, Nebraska shortly after high school graduation and worked for the telephone company. Later, she worked for a printing press and made life long friends. There she met her husband of 29 years, Jack, and started their family. Moving to Monroe, Louisiana, she introduced her husband to the wonderful business of Sonic Drive-In as they began as franchisees. She was supportive in growing their business into several locations while raising children and would rush home each day after “lunch run”. In retirement years, she enjoyed traveling and going on adventures. If you had an idea, she was your biggest fan and encouraged your dreams and aspirations. She would often have an “idea she wanted to talk to you about.” This meant you had better sit down, it was going to be big, adventurous, kind and generous. She had an extended family of friends she made while traveling, playing bingo and going on casino trips. Her friendships were authentic and loving.
My mom would want us to know that her winning Bingo number was called, she hit the big jackpot. Her prize,… an eternity with family and friends she hasn’t seen in a long time and the promise she will see us all again. She remains one of the happiest and positive people we all knew. Knowing Donna meant you were loved by her.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date that is yet to be determined. We will cherish any memories and messages you wish to share on the link provided.
