Doran H. Livingston
The call finally came to go home. Doran H. Livingston was born August 27, 1926, at Rockbridge, Missouri, in Ozark County to William and Nancy Hester (Mayberry) Livingston. He departed this life on January 15, 2019, while residing in the care of the Neighborhoods at Quail Creek in Springfield at the age of 92 years, 4 months and 20 days. Both of his parents and his only sister, Verda, predeceased him.
After growing up in Ozark and Douglas Counties in Missouri, Doran was united in marriage to China Bell Bushong on her birthday January 9, 1945. Together, they shared 68 years of marriage prior to her death in 2013. Doran is survived by their son Jerry D. (Joyce) Livingston of Thompson’s Station, Tennessee; their daughter, Dr. Shelia V. (John) Taylor of Springfield, Missouri; granddaughter, Dawn (Brad) Crisler, and their two daughters, Audra and Carmen; and by grandson Eric (Dixie) Livingston, along with their sons, Isaac and Ethan, and daughter, Jaylie. Doran will be greatly missed by his family and his many, many friends whose lives he has touched over the years.
Doran was an auctioneer in the Springfield area for many years, in addition to farming and raising cattle. He worked with his dear wife, China, in her window covering business for over 40 years. Many homes and businesses in the area still showcase the results of their talented work. He was a lifetime member of the Churches of Christ, with his most recent membership at Jackson Street Church of Christ in Willard, Missouri.
Doran never met a stranger and always had a story, usually several, to tell. His famous statement was: “So to make a long story short . . .” Sorry, Dad. Too late. He will be missed by all who loved his stories, his giving spirit, and his wisdom.
The family sends special thanks to the wonderful caregivers at the Neighborhoods at Quail Creek and Seasons Hospice for their care of our special father.
It was Doran’s request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to: In Search of the Lord's Way, P.O. Box 371, Edmond, OK 73083 or at www.searchtv.org
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 17, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in Greenlawn Funeral Home South. Funeral services will be on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 10 am in the funeral home with a short service and burial in Smith Chapel Cemetery, between Rockbridge and Gainesville, MO at 2:30 pm.
