Doreen Mae Sutterfield, 84, Springfield, MO. passed away Sunday, February 21, 2021, in her home. She was born on April 16, 1936, in Glenfield, North Dakota, to Sven and Fanny (Thoreson) Holmen. Doreen enjoyed her life, she was very involved with her family and her church. She was a member of North Side Assembly of God Church. She attended Glenfield, North Dakota High School and graduated in 1951, as the school Valedictorian. She was a homemaker, the wife of a career serviceman and a pastors wife to her husband. Doreen Mae Holmen and Thomas O. Sutterfield were united in marriage on December 18, 1954, in Fort Lewis, Washington. She spent many years as a pastors wife, she loved being a Sunday School Teacher, teaching others about Christ. She was also involved in the Southern Missouri Women’s Ministry, Springfield North Section, where she served as president., for three years. Doreen was also a talented writer, having some of her works published. She was also a very patriotic woman, who enjoyed growing flowers and collecting gnomes.
Doreen was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas O. Sutterfield, her parents: Sven and Fanny Holmen, three brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her two daughters and their spouses: Debra and Wayne Pilkinton and Karen and Eddie Sims, her grandchildren: Brian and Sarah Sims, Eric and Mandi Pilkinton, Aimee Sims and Christopher Upton, her great-grandchildren: Kiara Pilkinton, Avery Pilkinton, Kaleb Sims, Thomas Sims, Cooper Pilkinton, and Stephanie Sims, great-great-grandchildren: Callum and Kailor, her sister and her husband: Jane and Chuck Bata, and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 25, 2021, in Greenlawn Funeral Home North, with Rev. Alvin Blackard officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services, from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Private burial will be at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, MO. Memorial donations may be made to North Side Missions, Renewed Treasures Ministries.
