Edith Ilene (Dixon) Gott
Edith Ilene “Dinky” Gott, 87, of Springfield, Mo., passed away Friday, August 7, in Maranatha Village, after living with Alzheimer’s disease for over eight years. A 1940 graduate of Springfield Senior High, Ilene Dixon married Fred Gott in 1946, and they were married for 61 years until his passing in 2007. She was devoted to Fred through the War years and they raised two children at their lifelong home, a 50 acre farm on East Division. Ilene popped popcorn for Fred on their stove almost every night before they relocated to Culpepper Place in 2005. Active well into her senior years, Ilene loved quilting, bowling and riding her bike. She treasured photographs of her family and carried on family traditions, always finding ways to show love to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ilene was a member of College Street Baptist Church. She also attended Oakland United Methodist Church. David and Lynnette are very grateful for her faithfulness in taking them to church. Ilene was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; and her parents, Octa E. (Hannah) Dixon and C. Arvil Dixon. She is survived by a sister, Juanita Franks; a brother, Arvil Lee Dixon; her children, David L. Gott and his wife, Linda, Springfield, and Lynnette Jenkins and her husband, John, Sparta; grandchildren, Michael and Tina Gott, Jennifer and Matt Campbell, Daniel Jenkins, and Sarah Jenkins; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Hannah Gott; and two great-grandbabies due this fall. Her family will miss her laugh and sweetness, but they find comfort in knowing she is now at peace in heaven with Fred. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, August 17, in Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield. Visitation will be Sunday, August 16, from 5 to 7 p.m., in the funeral home. Donations in memorial may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association – Southwest Missouri Chapter, delivered to Greenlawn Funeral Home, 3506 N. National, in Ilene’s name.
