Evelyn Mae Boyce, 94, of Springfield, MO., peacefully entered the presence of the Lord on July 24, 2019. She was born in Ledyard, CT on May 20, 1925, the 11th of 13 children. After Evelyn’s junior year of high school, she left home to attend Zion Bible Institute in Providence, R.I. Evelyn was a gifted vocalist singing in a trio with her sisters in New England churches. In 1947, a young WWII veteran named Don Boyce attended one of those church services. It was “love at first sight”. Don and Evelyn married on February 18, 1950, and Don stayed smitten for 69 wonderful years of marriage. Evelyn was a very loving and devoted wife, and a wonderful mother. Her life revolved around her family, church friends, and generously giving to others.
When Evelyn’s children, Donna Eynon and Philip Boyce, were in elementary school, she attended night school to obtain her high school diploma. After her youngest child graduated from college, Evelyn enrolled at Azusa Pacific University in southern California, earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Education. As a straight ‘A’ student, Evelyn continued her studies there, graduating with a Master’s Degree in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling. She and Don, who had the same degree, had a marriage counseling practice together. They finally retired in their early 80s, moving to Maranatha Village in Springfield, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rena (Crouch) and Ralph Crandall, and 11 of her siblings.
She will be sorely missed by her husband Don; sister, Florence Grundy; daughter Donna Eynon and her husband John; son Philip Boyce and his wife Tammy (Snider); five grandchildren John Eynon, David Eynon, William Boyce, Betsy Boyce, Charles Boyce; and one great-granddaughter Marisa Eynon.
The funeral will be held on Friday, August 2, 2019, at 10:30am at Maranatha Village Chapel, Springfield, MO, with a time of visitation starting at 10:0am.
