Gary Wayne Sifford, Springfield, MO., died June 17 in St. Louis at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University with his wife, Kathy, at his side after he fought a seven month battle with leukemia. He was 69.
His close friends noted that Gary had a strong Christian faith and it was apparent by the example that he set. He was known for his ability to resolve common problems constructively and always exhibited a calm and professional manner. He was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and could recite statistics from every World Series in which the team was involved. He was able to attend a Cardinal ball game about a month before his passing.
Gary was an active member of the Crossway Baptist Church. He was a well respected journalist in his reporting and especially, his editing skills. For nearly the past twenty years, he was editor of Transmission Digest, an automotive trade journal. He also held reporter and editor positions at the Springfield news leader and the Star Press, Muncie, Indiana.
In addition to his wife, Kathy, Gary is survived by his brothers, Nathan and John, and two sons, Kevin and Steve.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 P.M. Monday, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Funeral services are at Crossway Baptist in Springfield at 11 A.M. Tuesday. Burial will follow at Missouri State Veteran’s Cemetery.
