George Dean Sowersby age 83, of Springfield, MO passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday May 1, 2016. He owned Dean’s Barbershop for 27 years and was retired from the United States Navy after 22 years of service. Dean was a veteran of the Korean War (where he received a Purple Heart) and Operation Desert Storm. Dean was very proud of his military service and an avid gardener.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Luther and Minnie Sowersby and one sister MaryLou. Dean was a devout Christian from 1961 that dedicated his life to the Lord in Plano, Texas.
Survivors include his loving wife Iva of 62 years; 3 sons Lonnie and wife Norma, Monty and wife Angie and Marty and wife Linda, all of the Springfield Area; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Mabel Mahon and Ruth Prock; and numerous friends and family.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday May 4, 2016 at Greenlawn Funeral Home North starting at 1:00 pm. Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm with burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
