Gerald B. Winget, 86 of Des Moines, Iowa, died of natural causes at BirchPointe Health Center in Springfield, Missouri on May 7, 2019. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, June 8 at Cass Center Cemetery, 1895 190th Street, Webster City, Hamilton County, Iowa 50595.
Gerald Blaine Winget, son of James Webster Winget and Abbie Mellinger Winget was born November 8, 1932 in Des Moines, Iowa. Mr. Winget was a lifelong resident of Des Moines. He graduated from North High School in 1951 and Drake University in 1958. He retired as a programmer/analyst for Central Life Assurance Company on December 31, 1994. He was a 20-year member of Toastmasters International and served as the State of Iowa Governor for Toastmasters in 1972. He was also a member of the West Des Moines Elks. Mr. Winget served in the United States Army from December 1952 to December 1954.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia of 66 years; son Ricky Winget and partner Clarence Eagle Ehler of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughter Sherry (Winget) Jones and husband Scott Jones of Springfield, Missouri and grandson Blake Jones of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Gerald will also be forever remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Larry Winget and sister Ida Belle Poage.
There will be a celebration of his life at Cooney’s, 3708 Beaver Avenue, Des Moines, 50310, following the service from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
