Glenda Jo (King) Pike 77, Springfield, MO. passed away Friday, March 5, 2021, at Cox South Hospital. She was born on Thursday, May 6, 1943, to Joseph F. and Viola (Potter) King at Springfield Baptist Hospital. She was a 1961 graduate of Parkview High School, in Springfield, MO. Because of the opening of new high schools, Glenda attended Central then Hillcrest before graduating from Parkview. Glenda was a retired Accounts Payable Coordinator, for the Greene County, MO. Highway Department, retiring after 20 years of service.
Glenda was the winner of the 2019 McReynolds Award from the Missouri Alliance for Historic Preservation, for outstanding achievement in Historic Preservation, for her and Tommy’s work with Route 66. She was an original Docent for the Bicentennial Museum of the Ozarks, now the History Museum of the Ozarks. She was a long time member and former board member of The Greene County Historical Society and a 58 year member of The Ozarks Antique Auto Club, She was a member of the Greene County Sesquicentennial Committee, and a member of the Birthplace of Route 66 Festival Committee. She was a charter member of The Route 66 Association of Missouri and former editor of “Show Me 66” magazine, a publication of The Route 66 Association of Missouri. Glenda also loved to participate in Route 66 preservation and promotional activities, collect glassware and pottery, cook, sew, and attend car events, swap meets, and flea markets.
Glenda was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph F. and Viola (Potter) King, her brother, James R. King, and her in-laws: Orville and Effie Pike. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Tommy Gene Pike. They were united in marriage on April 27, 1962, at Dale Street United Methodist Church, in Springfield, MO. Also surviving is daughter: Tonya Jo Pike, her brother: Jackie W. King, and her sister and her husband, Debra J. and Randy Cox, her nieces and nephews: Jennifer Szpizar, Jackie King Jr., Julie Roach, Melissa King, Jill Kirkwood, and Nikki Cox as well as numerous cousins, other relatives and close friends.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2021, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Heart Association.
