On Thursday, November 29, 2018, Harold Byrdean Box, Jr., loving husband, father of two children and grandfather of three, passed away in Springfield, Missouri. Harold was born November 30, 1944 to Harold Byrdean Box, Sr. and Ruth (Cathey) Box at Patuxent Naval Hospital in Maryland. He married Dana Rebori on July 18, 1965 and raised their son Greg and daughter Sontina in Springfield, Missouri.
Harold devoted the majority of his professional life as a rotary wing aircraft technician and retired as a Sergeant 1st Class leading a team of technicians at the Missouri National Guard AVCRAD facility in Springfield. He had a passion for automobiles in his younger years and was an avid auto racing fan. In his later years, Harold developed his skills in furniture woodworking and restoration, as well as baking cakes, cookies and other wonderful desserts for family and friends. His sense of humor, giving heart and thoughtfulness towards others were great examples for his family who subscribed to his philosophy of doing the right thing and helping those in need. His love for his Lord, Jesus Christ, faithfulness to his wife and devotion to his family and friends give strength to those who loved him and will miss him dearly. Harold was a member and worshiped at Wesley United Methodist Church in Springfield.
Harold was preceded in death by his father Harold Sr. and his mother Ruth. He is survived by Dana, his wife of 53 years, his two children Greg (wife Bobbi) and Sontina Overby (husband David), grandchildren Connor and Megan Overby and Tony Box, his twin sisters Connie Dothage (husband Dale) and Cathy Kirby (husband Mark) and his younger brother Terry (wife Kathy), and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services for Harold will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens under the care of Greenlawn Funeral Home East. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Monday, December 3, 2018 in the funeral home. Flowers may be sent to Greenlawn Funeral Home East at 3540 E. Seminole, Springfield, MO 65809. Memorial donations can also be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
