Harold R. Chole, age 92, formerly of Towner, ND, passed away on Wednesday, October 28th in Springfield, MO, where he made his home for the last 10 years.
Harold was born on September 16, 1928 to Richard and Ragnahild (Skjervem) Chole. Harold was the oldest of 6 children. Harold graduated from Balfour High School and served proudly in the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force, Harold served during the Korean War and worked on the electronics of fighter aircraft. He later was employed at Boeing where he worked on B-52 aircraft.
Harold married Ruth Ina Semrau on August 4, 1952 in Towner ND. A daughter, Raellen, was born on September 17, 1955, and a son, Barry, was born on October 14, 1958.
Harold was co-owner of P&C Electric with his brother Erwin Minot ND during the 1960’s and early 1970’s. In 1973, Harold and Ruth returned to Towner, ND and became owners of Harold’s Hardware. Harold drove school bus for many years for the Towner Public School system and after retiring, he truly enjoyed traveling to various cities to pickup and deliver school busses to schools from MT and GA and all places in between.
Harold loved to play cards and enjoyed many games of cribbage and pinnacle among his favorites. When he had a good hand, the twinkle in his eyes told the others at the table to watch out because he was about to take all the tricks.
Harold is survived by his daughter Raellen (Merton) Erickson, Fairfax, VA; son Barry (Alicia) Chole, Rogersville, MO; 3 Grandchildren, Jonathan, Keona, and Louis Chole; sisters Doris Nelson, Towner ND and Carol Nibbe, Rosemount, MN; sisters-in-law Elaine Hendrickson, Towner, ND; Avis Semrau, Grand Forks, ND, Audrey Eidness, Minot, ND, and Kathy Chole, Cupetino, CA; and numerous Nieces and Nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; his parents, Richard and Ragna; in-laws, Ella and JB Semrau; three brothers, Virgil, Erwin, and Einar ; Sister-in-laws, Joanne Semrau and Eileen Chole; and Brothers-in-law Kenneth Nelson, Richard Hendrickson, Gordon Semrau, and Lowell Nibbe.
A private family service and burial will be held at a later date because of covid restrictions. Burial will be at the Balfour Cemetery.
