Hollis Marjorie (Gurley) Young
Hollis “Holly” Marjorie (Gurley) Young, age 90, entered her heavenly home Saturday, November 14, at 6:10 p.m., in the Manor at Elfindale, in Springfield. She was born in Greene County, Mo., on February 1, 1919, the daughter of Alva E. and Inez F. (Rice) Gurley. Holly was born and raised on the family farm at I-44 and 65, north of Old Route 66. She married Dallas C. Young, August 8, 1948, in Harrison, Ark., and they had 25 years of marriage. Holly worked for Russell Stover Candies in Omaha, Neb. and Kansas City, Mo. for many years before moving back to Springfield to help in the family business, Truck Port Restaurant and Shady Acres Motel, on Old Route 66 on E. Kearney, and also take care of her parents. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening. She loved watching and feeding birds and her many pets. She and husband, Dallas, had Tennessee Walker and Fox Trotter horses, which they enjoyed riding and showing at horse shows. Holly was led to the Lord in her home by Pastor Leon and Ruby Gray, and was baptized and became a member of Berean Baptist Church, on July 17, 1978. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dallas; and an infant half brother. She is survived by one cousin, Janice Humphrey of San Jacinto, Calif.; and cousins, Diane Johnson of Neosho, Mo., and Shelia Price of Springfield, Mo. Holly also leaves behind several close friends: Lynn and Fontana Young, Mrs. Ruby Gray, Pauletta Marshall, and Bro. Fred and Sharon Reamsnider, all of Springfield. Visitation will be held in Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Tuesday, November 17, from 7 to 8 p.m. Services will be held Wednesday, November 18, at 10 a.m., in the funeral home, with Bro. Fred Reamsnider officiating. Interment will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
