James Eugene Johnston, 78, of Springfield, MO, died Sunday, November 20, 2022, in Cox South Hospital. He was born in 1944 to Eugene and Helen Curd Johnston in Springfield, MO.
Jim joined the US Air Force after his 1962 graduation from Parkview High School, attaining Staff Sgt E-5 as an electronic warfare technician serving in the US, Japan, and Thailand. After his service, he was employed at SW Bell/AT&T for 22 years. Post-retirement he enjoyed sailing, travel, and perfecting barbecue.
Jim is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jo, his daughter Dana Ulbrich, grandson Michael Ulbrich (Jessica), granddaughter Staci Ulbrich (Chris Hicks), Charlie his beloved dog; daughter Jill Gifford, grandson Donnie Gifford (Jessica), sister Sara Hill (Gene), five great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation or official funeral. A brief service will be held at the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery at a future date
