James Leroy Powell, 88, Springfield, MO. passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2022, after a short illness. He was born in Springfield, MO. on September 19, 1933, to Carl and Frances (Gregg) Powell. James was a retired Letter Carrier with the United States Post Office, after 30 years of service, He was an area resident for most of his life. He loved collecting different things. He was also a bowler, he loved baseball and traveling.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Sarah Powell, his son-in-law: Charles Rumley,one sister: Marjorie Carroll and two brothers: Raymond and Vern Powell. He is survived by wife: Rita (Toothman) Powell, a daughter and her husband: Jill and Garry Foster, two sons and their wives: Russell and Alberta Powell and Robert and Lisa Powell, step-daughter: Karen Rumley, step-son: Marvin LeJeune, seven grand-daughters and five-great- grandsons. He was a proud member of the American Legion, Springfield, MO Post 676.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, with burial to follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
