James was born on September 2nd, 1929 in St. Louis, MO to Winfield Scott Proe and Bessie May (Robinson) Proe.
James passed into heaven on October 17th, 2021. James graduated from Mt. Grove with the class of 1947, he served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. James retired from Kraft Foods after 35 years of service. He was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan, he liked his rides in the country where it was so peaceful and loved his ice cream. If you ever met James you were his friend and would remember his laugh and big smile. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Dixie; brother, Alvin; sister, Thelma; son in law, Thomas; and grandson Bryan. He is survived by his sister, Florence; son, James Jr. (Chris); step daughters, Janice (Jim) and Brenda (Ray); step son, Donald (Jacquie); nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren, with another due in April; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Springfield Villa for the care he received over the last two years, and Regional Hospice for their care over the last month.
Services for James will be at 1pm on Monday, October 25th at Missouri Veterans Cemetery with full military honors. A celebration of life will be immediately following the service at Big Whiskeys on West Republic Road.
