James William Anderson, III, “Jim,” slipped peacefully into Paradise at home with his beloved wife, Marta, at his side after a sudden illness on June 20, 2022.
Jim was born October 3, 1947, in Wichita, Kansas to Rev. Bill and Dona Anderson. Jim spent his childhood on the Mission Field in the Philippine Islands. He returned to the states to complete his education. Jim graduated from Udall High School in Udall, Kansas, in 1966. He attended SMS in Springfield, where he met his future wife, Marta Hammond. Jim and Marta were married in 1971. He earned his B.S. in Business from SMS in 1972. Jim was then hired into Kraft Foods Management and relocated to Tennessee, where his cherished daughters, Brooke and Jenny, were born.
In 1980, Jim, Marta, and family returned to Springfield, where Jim pursued a successful career in Industrial Water Management. In 2016, Jim retired from Chemtron Corp. and enjoyed happy retirement years with his adoring family. Jim was in his element in a basketball gym or on a ballfield cheering for all of his “kiddos.” He never missed an opportunity to encourage, coach, or love on any child that needed it. He especially loved time at Table Rock Lake with his girls, their families and friends.
Jim was a member of High Street Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marta; two daughters, Brooke Mathews and husband, Dan; Jenny Sledge and husband, Phillip; two granddaughters, Gabrielle and Grace Anne Mathews; one grandson, John Sledge; three siblings, Terry, Monty, and Don Anderson, as well as many adoring friends and relatives.
Jim’s generosity of spirit and warmth will be greatly missed, but his legacy of love remains.
Visitation for Jim will be 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Friday, June 24, at Greenlawn Funeral Home East. Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 25, at the funeral home with burial at Eastlawn Cemetery following the service.
