J.C. Scott, 88, of Springfield, Missouri passed away November 17, 2009, in Cox Medical Center. Mr. Scott was born July 7, 1921, in Byron, Arkansas to Phillip and Sally Bray Scott, who lived to be 107 years old. J.C. graduated from Salem High School in Salem, Arkansas. After graduation, J.C. joined the Merchant Marines and sailed around the world, which he had fond memories of until the end of his life. J.C. was the district supervisor for the Green Thumb program in the state of Arkansas. He was also an assistant director for the Viola, Arkansas Senior Citizens Center. He retired from this position in October, 1997. J.C. was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church. J.C. stated that as a child he attended both Baptist and Presbyterian churches and was saved at a Presbyterian revival. J.C. enjoyed fishing and was also considered a champion dominos player in Viola. J.C. was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers and their spouses, Otho and Floy Sanders Scott and their stillborn child, and Alvin and Marie Scott; and a sister, Cecil Scott Oliver Rosier, and her husbands, Ples Oliver and Troy Rosier. Survivors include his only first cousin, Zora Belle Scott Haley; and cousins, Larry Pope, Ronnie Pope, Dr. Roger Crane, Karen Scribner, Dr. Erma Ruth Wood, Mary Ann Wood Smith, John and Jan Wood, Max Wood, Jesse Kennon, Alex and Slova Smith, Ronda Williams, Alison Williams, Elizabeth Williams, Harber Wood and Chris Wood and others; longtime friend, Chloe Harber and other friends, Sherry Burton, Susan Ford, Robert Woods, Jay Young, Hayden Sexton, Larry and Earnestine Rhama, Adam Boschen, the Strong family, Bob Monday, Alan Kemper, Mr. and Mrs. John Eagle Freedom, Dr. Auston Rust, Dr. Craig Shifrin and Gloria and Billy McCuan. Visitation will be in Greenlawn North Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, December 10, 2009. A visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, December, 12, 2009 in Cox -Blevins Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas with funeral services at 2 p.m. in Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Byron, Arkansas with Rev. Bobby Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in Byron Cemetery. A note from Mary Ann Wood Smith: J.C. and I have had a bond for many years. After J.C. became disabled, God gave me a divine love for him, and I am very blessed and grateful to have been able to help him, and grateful to have these wonderful memories of the many wonderful experiences we had while he was with me. It is awesome that J.C. stayed so well mentally and physically for so long to allow us to have these wonderful experiences. A thank you to everybody who helped J.C. to have these wonderful experiences these last few years. J.C. has vacated his body and gone to heaven. Bon Voyage.
