Jean (Reynolds) O’Brien, age 78, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2023. Jean was born to Berry Junior Reynolds and Betty Jean Willis on August 21, 1944, in Springfield. She was raised in Springfield and Willard, Missouri, and graduated from Willard Senior High School in 1963. Jean was blessed with three sons, Rick Brooks, Mike Brooks, and Shane O’Brien. In recent years she was also given by God’s grace, three grandsons, Truett O’Brien, Michael Brooks, and Ricky Brooks, Jr.
After growing up in Missouri, Jean spent many years in California and Arizona before moving back to Springfield in 2003, to return to family. She retired from Chase Bank after many years in the working worlds as a Candy-Striper, hairdresser, store clerk, Human Resources Manager, and Customer Service Representative. Jean’s passions after raising her children included arts and crafts, gardening, and her grandchildren. Jean was a fighter; after dealing with Polio as a child, she was also a two-time breast cancer survivor.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Berry and Betty; stepmother, Lucy Reynold and husband Dennis O’Brien. She is survived by her children, Rick Brooks and his wife Stacey, Mike Brooks and Shane O’Brien with his wife Elizabeth, along with grandchildren Truett O’Brien, Michael Brooks, and Ricky Brooks. In addition, she is survived by brother Jack Reynolds, brother Ed Hitchcock, Tina Martin and Janice Bowler.
A private, invitation-only “celebration of life” is currently being planned by the family. Donations can be made in Jean’s name to the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks (Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks (bcfo.org).
