On January 20, 2022 at 3:23am, Jerry Kevin Saylor, “Spooky” gained his wings at Mercy Hospital Springfield, MO. He was 72 years old. He was preceded in death by his father, Rollie Elijah Saylor, his grandson Finley Gauge Grider, and his granddaughter Presley Skye Grider.
Jerry is survived by his mother, Doris Jean Saylor of Tulsa, OK, his son and granddaughter Jordan & Autumn Saylor of Ozark, MO, his daughter & grandson Rachael Saylor & Morgan Grider of Springfield, MO, his sisters and brothers in law, Linda & Bill Hart and Debbie & Jim Bass of Tulsa, OK , his brother and sister in law David & Beth Saylor of Springfield, MO. Jerry is also remembered fondly by numerous friends, family, nieces, and nephews.
Jerry was born and raised in Hamilton, OH where he followed his father’s footsteps into the Navy. After he left the Navy he moved to Springfield, MO, married Rebecca Imfeld Saylor and became a stone mason. He spent many of years as a maintenance man at various schools and apartment complexes.
Everyone knew Jerry for his kind and thoughtful heart, his compassion, and his writing. He loved to spend his extra time tinkering on various things, volunteering, writing books, and a multitude of poems. He loved to volunteer his time helping others in whatever he could do. He was known in the community best for his hard work building planter benches for Fairbanks and also his help & leadership at the Grant Beach Neighborhood Association Produce Distribution.
Jerry showed his joy and enthusiasm for life with his gardening and his extra time writing various poems and a few books. Even after his unfortunate turn of events 3 years ago, the love he showed his children and grandchildren never slowed down.
Remembrances in Jerry’s name may be made to Camp Barnabas in Honor of Jerry Saylor. Memorial services will be held on Feb. 6th, 2022 from 2-4pm at Greenlawn South Springfield, MO. A private ceremony will be held Monday Feb. 7th, 2022 at 11am at the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery in Springfield, Mo.
