Jerry Lee Slavens, age 76, of Springfield, passed away Friday, November 18th, 2022, at Mercy Hospital .
Jerry was born September 21, 1946, in Springfield, MO, to Earl and Martha Slavens. Jerry was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Sarah Jane Merrell on June 13, 1966 in Lawton, OK. Jerry owned and operated Slavens Shoe Repair and Archery Shop for many years. Jerry enjoyed bow hunting, wood working, and being involved with archery. He was 1976 Bare Bow Missouri State Champion. Sarah and Jerry enjoyed going to the Casinos and playing Bingo. Jerry served on the Springfield City Council for eight years.
Survivors include hus loving wife of 58 years, Sarah Slavens; daughter, Sharon Hostetler and husband Johnny; son, Larry Slavens; four grandchildren, Silas Sterling, Jr., Jerry Sterling, Heather Sterling, and Dustin Sterling; eight great-grandchildren, Silas III, Seriyah, Lilly, Wyatt, Nylah, Nora, Kali, Keyshawn; two brothers, Earl Slavens, Jr. and Joe Slavens; two sisters, Sue Ware and Deane Barber; special friend, Gloria Carr; and a host of family and friends
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm, on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Greenlawn Funeral Home South. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 23rd, 2022, at 10:00am in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
