Joe J. Wasson
Born January 12, 1931, in Goodman, Mo., Joe left on his journey to be with the Lord and his past loved ones on December 24, 2009. He joined the Army on August 3, 1950, and was stationed on Hill 1062 in the Korean War. He served two tours of duty and was ranked Sgt. when discharged in 1953. On October 9, 1974 he was united in marriage to Vera Kelsay. Before her passing in 2002, they spent 28 years happily raising their family. He was employed by Erickson Transport in 1969 as an over-the-road truck driver. He retired in 2002 after 33 years of service. Joe’s passion was for his family and car racing. He raced his #58 at the Springfield fairgrounds in the late 50’s and early 60’s. He also loved watching Nascar. He will be missed greatly by family and friends, but he will be remembered as a generous, funny, kind and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and hero. He will be remembered fondly for generations to come. A graveside service will be held Thursday, December 31 at Greenlawn North cemetery at 1 p.m. with military honors.
