Reverend John Lasher Gunn, age 93, went to be with the Lord April 26, 2019 at 9:10 pm. His wife, Helen Green Gunn, and son, John, were by his side.
John grew up tough in the Brightmoor area of Detroit, and at the age of 17, joined the Navy and served during WWII. After the war, John experienced a life changing encounter with God that directed the rest of his life.
Everyone who knew, or even met, John was struck by his sincerity, his humor, his generosity, and his unwavering love for God and His Word. Although a very successful man in business, John considered his most important work as pastor of Lighthouse Assembly of God in Walled Lake, Michigan, for 21 years, and Medford Assembly of God in New Jersey for 10 years.
John is survived by his wife, Helen, his daughter, Eva Mae, and his sons, John Walter and Randall Scott, 8 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, two great-great granddaughters, and his sister, Thelma Andrews. Preceding him in death were his wife of 62 years, Doris Sarah (nee Ross), his brothers Bruce, Owen, and Harold, and his sisters Anne and Dorothy.
There will be a family only Memorial Service.
Interment will be Tuesday, May 7th, at 11:00 am at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5102 S Southwood Road, in Springfield, Missouri.
