Joyce Arlene (Nixon) Wendel, daughter of Forrest “Buck” Ray Nixon and Jewel Marie Nixon, was born January 26, 1944 in Eldorado, Kansas, and passed away at 11:33 a.m. Thursday, October 31, 2019 in Mercy Hospital, Springfield, surrounded by her adoring husband, and loving family, at the age of 75 years, nine months and five days.

She was united in marriage to George “Tony” Tinsley Wendel on May 26, 1962.

Joyce was employed for over 30 years by Baldwin’s Studios, a photography studio in Springfield. She later retired from Mercy Hospital where she worked as a Patient Access Representative.

Everything Joyce did was for her family. She not only worked hard for them, she played hard for them. She was a member of CrossBridge Baptist Church in Marshfield. Joyce enjoyed reading and was known for her flower gardens and her green thumb. She felt at home living in the country, being in nature, and bird watching. She was warm and welcoming, making everyone feel at home in her presence.

Preceding her in death are her parents; and her brother, Norman Nixon.

Survivors include her husband, Tony Wendel, Northview; her daughters, Carmen Foster, Marshfield, and Beth Landskroner and her husband, Jeff, Northview; her grandchildren, Jimmy Foster, Lenexa, KS, and Jason Foster and his wife, Sarah, Conway; four great grandchildren, Macyn, Case, Jay and Grady Foster; three sisters, Judy Jantz, Springfield, Jane Mills and Linda Nixon and her husband, George, all from Buffalo; her long-time friend, Doris Ragland; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

There will be a short service at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, November 7, 2019 in Greenlawn North Funeral Home, with Wally Miller officiating. Visitation will follow from 6-7:30 in the funeral home. The body will be cremated.
